LIFE IS NOW – Break Free From You Past, Heal Today

LIFE IS NOW – Break Free From You Past, Heal Today

How many times have you heard that ‘your past doesn’t define you’?

You know it makes sense, you want to believe it, to let go, but you keep being pulled back into your pain over and over again, and you just don’t know how to move on.

You don’t know how to apply this truth in your own life.

You have lived a life of both joy and pain, and yet you only seem able to focus on the pain.

It’s not a deliberate choice, it’s just that your thoughts and feelings keep going back there.

They keep re-running the scenes, the memories, and the hurt feels as real today as it did way back when.

Most of my clients have a painful story to tell, a hurt that feels trapped inside them. A loss. A neglect.

We all do. Hurt, loss, the feeling of being unseen or unheard—these are part of the human experience.

You came into this world expecting to receive love. And you were given into the care of those who also came into the world expecting the same love.

But sometimes they didn’t receive the love they needed, or in the way they needed it, and they became hurt.

It is true that hurt people, hurt people—not because they wanted to, but because what they thought was the best way, the way they learned to cope and feel safe, was wrong for you.

And so the cycle continues, passed down generation to generation.

But that cycle only lasts until you take back control of your past, stop believing in your past, and release the pain of your past with compassion and forgiveness.

This blog is here to help you find awareness that will allow you to let go of pain, invite in love, and make your life the very best it can be starting today.

I wrote this with the deepest compassion and love from my wounded heart, which I have chosen to heal, to your wounded heart so that you can heal too.

YOU ARE NOT YOUR PAST

You are not your past. You are not your pain. You are not the stories you’ve told yourself about what happened to you.

Those stories feel real because you’ve lived them, but they only exist where you put your attention.

Right now, in this moment, they don’t exist at all.

So why do they still have so much control over you?

Because your mind keeps bringing them forward. It replays old wounds, past regrets, and the pain of what you once believed about yourself.

But here’s the truth that will set you free:

Your past is not a predictor of your future. It is simply what you have experienced, and it holds no power in the present unless you allow it.

Your past pain is brought into your awareness by you, and it is held onto subconsciously—not to hurt you, but to protect you from experiencing it again.

If your story is that you are not good enough, you won’t try.

If you don’t try, you can’t fail.

If you believe relationships always end in pain, you won’t fully open your heart.

If you believe success is only for others, you won’t take the risks that lead to growth.

Your mind is trying to keep you safe, but in doing so, it keeps you small and unfulfilled.

In the past, your felt pain was automatic—your mind’s way of protecting you.

But today, you are aware, and with awareness comes choice. What will you choose now?

My Story

I grew up frightened and traumatised. I felt unloved and unlovable.

The shouting, the fear of being abandoned, the blows that seemed to come out of nowhere.

I didn’t see the stress and strain my parents were under daily with nine children, I only saw and felt the snap of their exhaustion and fear.

And I thought it was me. I thought I was the problem, and I didn’t know how to make it better. How to make them happier and I saw myself as a failure.

I grew into an outwardly happy, vibrant young woman, but in truth, I was a crushed version of who I truly was. A flower that had been stamped carelessly into the ground.

And I lived like that, through relationships and addictions that I thought were all I deserved.

I made one poor choice after another, and whilst I suffered, I thought it was how my life was supposed to be.

For years, I carried the weight of my past like it was part of my identity. Every mistake, every painful experience, every hurtful word, I believed they defined me… And so, I stayed stuck.

But then came a moment—an ordinary day, nothing special—when I suddenly became aware of what I was doing to myself.

I was sitting alone, lost in my thoughts, completely unaware of the life happening around me.

And then, something simple shifted the lens of my thinking. Something that opened up my awareness, and the door to a different reality, and I walked through it.

I remember feeling the warm breeze of life’s loving kiss on my cheek.

The sound of laughter in the distance. It was the laughter of someone healthy, in love with herself and life and deeply at peace.

The laughter of someone living in the moment, with compassion and forgiveness for herself and her past.….it was my laughter.

It was me. I looked towards the laughter and for the first time in a very long time, I saw what was right in front of me.

It hit me: my pain was only real because I was choosing to relive it.

The past wasn’t holding onto me—I was holding onto it.

That was the first time I truly understood that I could choose something different.

That I could choose this moment, this breath, this life that was unfolding in front of me.

And in that instant, I felt lighter. Free.

I know when trust that if you let go, you will not fall—you will rise.

LIFE HAPPENS IN THE PRESENT

Life happens now. The moment right here. Not yesterday. Not five years ago. Not even five minutes ago.

Life flows in ease when you remove the boulders of trapped pain out of your way.

The river of life is clear and sparkling, twisting and turning with each new moment.

And just like a river, you can navigate and flow with it, or fight against the current of past wounds and future worries.

Your life is unfolding in real time, giving you countless opportunities to find joy and connection.

So, What does living in the present feel like?

It feels like the weight lifting off your shoulders as you realize you don’t have to fix your whole life right now.

It’s the relief that comes from knowing you can experience peace in the present without having to wait for everything to be perfect.

In this moment, there are no mistakes, no failures, no lingering regrets—there is only now.

How do you start?

Start small. Let yourself experience a single moment of calm.

Take a few deep breaths and allow your attention to settle on what’s happening around you.

Notice the details of this moment without judgment—just curiosity. This simple shift is often enough to show you that you can live in the present and feel more at ease.

The truth is:

When you let go of the past, even for a few minutes, you can experience the richness of now.

You will notice that your heart beats only for you, keeping you alive in this moment, asking nothing of you but to simply be here, to exist fully in the now.

Each beat is a reminder that you have the choice to let go of the weight of yesterday and the worry of tomorrow.

This is where life happens—not in the memories of what was, not in the uncertainty of what’s to come, but in the steady, grounding rhythm of now.

In the present, you can breathe freely. In the present, you can choose peace.

A SIMPLE EXERCISE TO BRING YOU BACK TO NOW

1️⃣ Take a deep breath in, feeling the air fill your lungs.
2️⃣ Place your hand on your heart and notice its steady rhythm.
3️⃣ Close your eyes and exhale slowly, letting go of tension.
4️⃣ Whisper to yourself:

“I am here. I am safe. Life is now.”

Repeat this until you feel grounded in the present, letting each breath anchor you in this moment.

Whenever your mind pulls you back into the past or pushes you into the future, return to this simple practice.

YOU CHOOSE YOUR FUTURE

No matter what you’ve been through, no matter how heavy your past feels, you have the power to step forward.

Your past does not own you. Your pain does not define you. The stories you’ve told yourself can be rewritten.

The only thing that matters is this moment. And in this moment, you are free.

So breathe. Be here. Choose peace.

Because life is now, and you deserve to live it fully.

Are you ready to stop carrying the weight of a story that no longer serves you? Life is now, and it is yours to live. Are you ready to step into it?
